"The Pride of Paoli" web design (2018) Indiana Daily Student

This web design project
is part of a months-long team reporting project done for a course and published in our student paper.

I was in charge of designing an already-coded skeleton template with photos, text, graphics and video. While the basic skeleton of this project comes from a former IDS staffer, I created the overall presentation and design of the story, photos and other elements. I decided what photos and elements were best to place in the buildout and where they would be most effective for a reader. Click image for project.

Housing & Living Guide cover (Spring 2019) Indiana Daily Student

The Housing & Living Guide is an IDS special publication on stands for more than a semester. It is tool for IU students who are living on their own — many for the first time — to navigate housing.

I wanted the cover to be simple, yet eye-catching, to engage students hurrying across campus. Click image for full-size PDF.

Chicago Cubs charts package (2018) J464: Infographics

This charts package was not published but was created for my infographics course. We were required to use at least three graphs to present information about a given topic.

I chose the Chicago Cubs due to my love for the team and the timeliness of the piece. I was creating this graphics package not long after the team was knocked out of the 2018 postseason. I thought this assignment would be a neat way to dig into what happened in the 2018 season, and the results did not disappoint. There are some changes I wish I had made to the graphs before submitting the project, however. The most prominent change would have been using percentages instead of straight statistics to show the breakdown of the players' offensive seasons because it would have been more comparable between players. "The Pride of Paoli" static graphics (2018) Indiana Daily Student

These graphics were created a
s part of a months-long team reporting project done for a course and published in our student paper.

I created these graphics to be viewed in a slideshow to inform readers of the demographic breakdown of Paoli, Indiana. This was important because the basis of the story came from the fact that there were two white nationalists living in Paoli, a mostly-white town. This slideshow of graphics came after a section describing the town in order to provide more context for readers. They were designed to give readers a better, more visual understanding of the racial breakdown of Paoli.

Digital story production (Spring 2019) Indiana Daily Student

As the managing editor of digital, I maintained our website by deciding how and when to play up different stories, and the digital editors and I added interactive graphics, related content and other embedded elements to articles.

StoryMapJS allowed me to help readers visualize where violence took place across Indianapolis in one weekend for this story.
